Good Medicine
"A happy heart
is good medicine and a cheerful mind
works healing,
but a broken spirit dries up the bones."
Proverbs 17:22 AMP
Many of us have had broken hearts. And it doesn't matter if the brokenness stems from something we have done or from something that was beyond our control; broken hearts are painful to endure. Broken hearts leave us crying ourselves to sleep in the middle of the day; leave us wondering can we "really" trust anyone - especially those who say they love us or that they are our friends; cause us to over-eat, under-eat, act-up, and shut-down; and leaves one feeling over-whelmed, alone, tired, and sad. A broken heart goes hand-in-hand with a broken spirit; and a broken spirit, dries up the bones. A broken heart and a broken spirit often leads to depression or a feeling like you are loosing it!
Can you say,
"been there, done that, bought the T-shirt!"
I sure can! I have had times in my life when I wondered if I would ever laugh or smile again or know what happiness was in my life. For me the answer to life's dark times (and as believers, we will have dark times in this life) is found in Proverbs 17:22, "A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing". In the dark times I had to choose to believe God and His Word. The circumstances didn't change overnight, the feelings of disappointment didn't leave overnight, but I had confidence that if I chose to daily meditate upon the "joy of my salvation in the Lord", He would bring me through the darkness and into His light. And now I can smile again, I can laugh again, and I do know what happiness is. The Word of God has brought happiness and heart-healing back to my life. Praise the Lord!
