A friend is always loyal, and a (sister) is born to help in time of need. Proverbs 17: 17

Late in January something remarkable happened to me. I experienced a "Woman's Night In". No, not a girls night out. This was an intimate gathering of three women who had met for the first time at a conference on worship. The three of us had assumed that we would be the only ones like ourselves at the conference. But God had something wonderful in store for us. Our loving God, took the time to connect the three of us from different parts of the country to show us that not only were we not the only one's like ourselves, but that we could even find strength to run our appointed race in the sharing of our struggles with other sisters.

I call this night a "woman's Night In" because the three of us left from an evening service and spent about an hour in the cozy and welcoming living room of the one who lived in-town. We spent the time sharing original poetry, life stories, dreams, and appreciation for the company of women. This was a woman's night in because we talked about "grown women" stuff -- life issues, passions, and hurts. We were not out on the town looking for a good time. We were "in". In-touch with our God; In-touch with sisters who loved God; In-touch with our own voices; In-touch with our freedom in Christ and the awesome responsibility to be an image bearer of Christ.

I did not want that night to end. How rare it is to have a "Woman's Night In". I believe the night was orchestrated by God. How else could the three of us have met? How else could we, in a time of "aloneness", find perfect companionship just when we needed a tangible touch for God? How else could such a moment have such a transformative impact -- each of being able to say "Tonight, I saw God at work", "Tonight, a thirst for the company of godly women was satisfied -- even if it only lasted for an hour, it was enough", "Tonight, I have a renewed sense of who I am and what God is calling me to be", "Tonight, I have been encouraged to be who I am."

A "sister is born to help in time of need". I thank God for spiritual sisters and I look forward to my next "woman's night in."
