Blessings

And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing                                                         - Genesis 12:2

Blessings ... There was a time when I would read Genesis 12:2 and I would only focus on what God said that He would do for Abram. In my mind I would think ... hey, if God is not a respecter of persons and if I am a daughter of Abraham, then this promise MUST be for me, too. And then I would "claim" the promise of becoming a great nation, being blessed by God, and my name becoming great -- after all, if God did it for Abram, why not for Michelle.

Well, some years and tears of repentance later I still seek to have this passage apply to my own life; but, not in the same way. NOW ... I focus on
"be a blessing". This is my prayer now, not so much that I would be blessed by God ... but that I would be a blessing to God and God's creation. Now, it really doesn't matter if my name ever becomes great. It doesn't even matter if the person God directs me to bless even knows my name. What I want most, what I live to do, is to be a blessing ... and in that I am blessed.

Being blessed doesn't always mean that one will get rich -- not that I would mind because I dream of owning my own conference center and carrying out ministry in excellence takes the currency of this world; being blessed, I have learned, has less to do with "who" you are and "what" you have and more to do with the satisfaction of being content with the plans God has for you ... because you realize, it is not about you anyway, it is about God.
